Description
The recent update of openvpn connect from 1.1.1 to 1.2.5 broke our VPN setup.
Where pushing our INTERNAL DNS server to the client.
The recent 1.2.5 on ios seems to ignore that setting.

This is a known if unfortunate bug in the Apple VPN API, and the workaround for that will come in the 1.2.6 update due "early next week" (short form of a long story).
For the time being, as a workaround, you can
push "redirect-gateway def1"
to your iOS clients. It is not what you currently want (otherwise you'd not see that problem), but for a few days it should help pacify your users.(My corporate users were hit by it as well, and I can confirm that 1.2.6(1) and said workaround both fix the problem)
@ordex: you mentioned it being documented in the Connect FAQ but I lost the link... could you...?
