Description

In the Windows version of OpenVPN, OpenVPN GUI is included. Development of OpenVPN GUI was discontinued in 2006, which means that Windows 7 is not supported. If you try to run it in Windows 7, it won't work unless you start it with "Run as Admin". If you don't, it won't ask for admin rights. It just silently fails, leaving the user clueless.

OpenVPN MI GUI (http://openvpn-mi-gui.inside-security.de/) is based on OpenVPN GUI, but is still being developed and solves the above problem. Thus, I suggest replacing the discontinued OpenVPN GUI with OpenVPN MI GUI.

The GUI included in recent OpenVPN installers (2.3+) is not the original OpenVPN-GUI, but this one:

The developer of this new OpenVPN-GUI is an active OpenVPN developer. Unfortunately Google still insists on showing the obsolete OpenVPN-GUI homepage as the first hit. Also, the original author of the OpenVPN-GUI has not given us access to the obsolete homepage, so there's nothing we can do to fix this confusion...

Some time ago we discussed the option of merging the new OpenVPN-GUI and OpenVPN-MI GUI, and the consensus was that it wasn't easily doable.
