Description
I have tried to use an certificate that was signed with SHA256 , and the polar ssl in the current release does not support this certificate.
Tested with
OpenVPN Connect 1.1.17 build 76
OpenVPN Core 3.0.12
from google play.

This shouldn't be a problem anymore given that Connect for Android is shipped with mbedTLS 2.6.0.
Feel free to re-open the ticket is the issue persists.
